I like to walk up and down the aisle of whatever store I'm in: a fancy paperie, a bookstore, a target (tar-jay is what I like to call it) and let my muse yank me towards whatever book is destined to be mine.
I like computers too. Typing is quick.
Which is good, because I think quickly.
Journaling with a pen is slow.
Which is good, because sometimes I think too quickly.
Slowing down the pace of my thoughts to match the speed of my handwriting
transforms writing into a meditation. I can take breaths. Be grateful. Really listen to my muse.
Purple ink pens never hurt, either. ;)
I love my 'journal de jour' because it's mint green, has a dragonfly (represents seeing through your own illusions), a red bird (I'm writing A LOT about were-birds for book 2), it's got a J for Jodi on it, and last, but not least, it's a hardcover. There is something very permanent about the weight of it; something that feels important.
It reminds me that my thoughts are more precious than I even realize. My Muse sends ideas to me for a reason. If I show up, she shows up too. Showing up to a gorgeous book in the morning to record my inspirations & mediations is an absolute treat!
If you are a journal junkie like myself, I'd love to hear about your fave, or the one you're using now and why you picked it/why it speaks to you!
